We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Rector to lead our congregation into the future with love, grace, and an unwavering commitment to our shared mission.

Position Overview:
We are looking for a spiritually grounded, compassionate, and experienced Rector to lead Christ Episcopal Church in worship, ministry, and outreach. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who is passionate about preaching, teaching, and fostering an environment where all people, regardless of background, feel welcome to worship and grow in faith. Our Rector will oversee the day-to-day operations of the church, lead Sunday services, guide the congregation in spiritual growth, and work closely with the Vestry, staff, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and plan weekly worship services, including Holy Eucharist and special liturgies.
  • Preach inspiring, lectionary-based sermons that foster spiritual growth and reflection.
  • Provide pastoral care to parishioners, including counseling, hospital visits, and support during times of need.
  • Facilitate Christian education programs for all ages and encourage participation in formation activities.
  • Oversee the administration of the sacraments, including baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment that supports diverse spiritual and community needs.
  • Work closely with the Vestry and other church leaders to guide long-term strategic planning and visioning for the church’s future.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with local organizations, diocesan leaders, and regional clergy.
  • Act as a public face for the church within the broader community and in the Episcopal Diocese.

Qualifications:

  • Ordained priest in the Episcopal Church with a valid standing in the Diocese of East Carolina (or willing to be received into the diocese).
  • A deep commitment to the liturgical life of the church and a strong understanding of Episcopal traditions.
  • Proven experience in pastoral leadership, preaching, and teaching in a congregational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and lay leadership.
  • Ability to manage church operations, including staff oversight, budget management, and strategic planning.
  • A heart for outreach and mission, with a passion for engaging the broader community in service and social justice.
  • You will be the one who guides us into our third century of Christ-centered love and service in Elizabeth City.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with church growth and revitalization efforts.
  • Knowledge of worship practices (both traditional and contemporary)
  • Have the capacity to discover innovative approaches to ministry.
  • Proficiency in digital communication and social media outreach.
  • A passion for ecumenical and interfaith collaboration.

Compensation:
A competitive stipend will be offered based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off, and continuing education support in keeping with the norms of the Diocese of East Carolina.
